D. Y.Patil College

Mechanical Engineering :(Accreditated by NBA in Dec. 2003)

D.Y. Patil College of Engineering was established in the year 1984, and the Mechanical Engineering Department was also established right in the same year.

The Department is able to recruit and retain highly dedicated, qualified and competent faculty. The intake of students is 120 and the total strength is about 500 being one of the major departments of the college.

Department has received AICTE funding under various schemes such as thrust Area Programmed in Technical Education (TAPTEC) / Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence (MODROB) and R&D Schemes, and entrepreneurship development scheme. Department also got grants from university of pune for research proposal.

This has helped in modernization of laboratories. This amounts to about 35 lacks.

Goals of the department:

Long range goals: -

To upgrade the knowledge of the staff members, motivating them to achieve higher qualifications and encouraging to participate/conduct the seminars /workshops.
Interaction with the industry through need based projects.
To develop R&D facilities of international standard.

Short range goals: -

To improve the quality of the engineering student by conducting seminars, personality development programmes and related training programmes.
Student projects from industry on Current/Latest technology.
Interaction with other institutes of higher learning for library and other facilities.
Alumni association.
Opening chapters of professional bodies.

Laboratories:

Considerable attention is being given in the planning and setting up of laboratories to make them of global standards and to provide excellent ambience and facilities to our students so that their practical work does not become monotonous and the student’s motivational level is sustained all the time. The Department has started Post Graduate Programme ME(Mechanical)-Design since year 2005 with a intake capacity of 18.

Results:

The overall results of the department are above 75% and subject results are 90% and above. Some of our students have ranked first in the university in the BE (Mech) examinations of Pune University.

Placement:

Many students for higher studies and starting their own ventures. The placement figures are impressive with 102 students from 2006-07 batch getting selected through campus interviews.

Industrial visits and Seminar:

Industrial visits are arranged on a regular basis to make sure that our students get a real picture of what they learn in theory class. Visits are organized for exhibitions such as IMTEX and many others.

The department has also organized seminars on higher end CAD /CAM software by inviting various CAD/CAM professionals from industry for the benefit of student. Personality development camps are organized through Mechanical Engineering Student’s Association (MESA)

Co-curricular activities: Students from the department are obtaining good score in the GATE, GRE and TOFEL and CAT examinations.

Many of our students have won prizes in national level paper presentation and quiz contests. Students also organize a state level technical festival named 'MECHTRIX' every year that consist of Tech. Paper Presentation, Robotics, Design on the spot, Model making and many more.

The Alumni association of the Institution will be strengthened through MESA and value addition through personality development activity, improvement of communication scheme, team building and development of our students as global professionals will be undertaken
